Halloween fabric stash

When I left last week, my desk was pretty clear. Now, it looks like a disaster. It's not even old paper - it's new stuff that landed on my desk that I must deal with. There are even two piles on the floor. ACK!!! OK - some of it is older stuff I found as I'm clearing the class folder I took to the retreat. We had Monday sewing yesterday, so there was no time to deal with it, but this morning, I plan to attack this paper and get it off the desk.

Some of it is stuff that I need to follow up with from the retreat. I can no longer let the paperwork slide and then pile it in a box to deal with later. I must keep on top of the current stuff, so there's no need to hide it. And it's not so much that I have to do this; I want to do it. Today is the day!

As quick as that - two things are gone! I need to ensure I keep that workspace open, which has been a problem in the past. I will make it happen.

I walked to the clinic and got my ultrasound for my hip, so hopefully, that will show something, but I doubt it. I walked a LOT yesterday, and I have to say that I'm feeling pretty good. I still have twinges, depending on how I move. And when I went to spin class, it was hilarious! It was a tad uncomfortable initially, and I contemplated not staying for the entire class. Instead of leaning on the handlebars, I could sit upright, which seemed to help.

The worst part? I couldn't reach forward to get my water bottle! So I was thirsty when the class was over. But if that's how I have to ride, that's how I ride!

Oh, Muprhy -- that clingy dog. I don't know what's got into her, but she is like Velcro! She follows me everywhere! And wants me to TOUCH her always. And she is very insistent!

MOM -- you HAVE to touch me - always!

I was back tidying up those bags from the retreat. I had to rifle through my Halloween fabric to find something for the sashing of that one kit I found.

Do NOT judge me on this. I depleted (or so I thought) my Halloween stash many years ago. Alas, there is a big tub of the darn stuff and a few pieces that will not fit. At least it's all together!

The Halloween stash

This is one area where the fabric manufacturers have gone way overboard. Each year, each company releases at least ONE Halloween collection. How many Halloween quilts does one household need? I have three completed quilts and at least one or two more to quilt. I suppose they will go in the donation pile. They are great for kids!

I found this green fabric, which I'll use for the diagonal sashing. I should check what I used on my quilt in the same style. It doesn't really matter; let's just get it done! Once the blocks are together, I'll look for borders.

The kit is ready to go back to the retreat

And there's that goofball Murphy. She's lying on the blankets I moved to the family room, chomping on her bacon-flavored broccoli toy. I threw this blanket on her, and she was quite happy to lay there! Silly girl!

MOM - I LOVE my toy

After Monday's sewing, I got to work on a customer quilt. It looks like this is being gifted to a big hockey fan! It's big, but I love it when the quilts are beautifully pieced! This one quilted up like a dream.

Customer quilt - DONE

We had an embroidery software Zoom class last night and another later this week. I have a lot of stuff happening this weekend in the Zoom department, but everything is under control. There is a lot to accomplish, but I can do it as I have a good head start on all four Zooms for Saturday. WAIT—that's a lie—I have a good headstart on three of the four.

Here's our EXIT Game Advent Calendar.

The 2024 EXIT Game Advent Calendar

I just laugh when I see the label on the front - Beginner! Both puzzles so far are NOT for beginners. They both required some visual sleuthing in various spots and some deep thinking. And then more visual sleuthing. DH and I solved the puzzles and found the code as a team. But DH? Good grief - I was going on about how challenging the second puzzle was. OK -- so I was gloating that we solved it! It's just one puzzle a day, but most puzzles are multi-part, and you need to get part one to move to part two, and so on.

He says, "It wasn't hard, once you figured out X." YES - but figuring out X, which I did, was a challenge. Once you had X, our trained brains knew what to do, but someone new to the game would likely not have gotten it. Let's just say that we continue to get a lot of entertainment from the thing. The best value for our money in the entertainment world, but you have to LOVE puzzles. If you don't, then this is NOT for you!

However, it will take a long time to complete since our dinner schedules will not be coordinated for December. But that's OK. We don't really need to save Christmas—it's coming whether we solve the advent calendar or not!

Speaking of last-minute Christmas gift-making, I don't, as a rule, make or give gifts, but my "friends" have been making great little things with their embroidery machines. So, I want to join them. Wish me luck—let's see what I can make this week! All good intentions and not enough time!

How is your decluttering coming along? You know, this is a lifelong skill that most of us fail. OK - fail is a harsh word. We need to learn the advantages of the gift of decluttering, which can give you peace and calm in your house. We need to change our ways. How often do you hear of people who lose their keys? Seriously? How can one lose a set of keys? Have a space by the front door, and the MINUTE you walk in the door, the keys go in that spot. It's a no-brainer to me, but I know many people struggle with it. Getting into a routine may be boring, but it saves time!

And if you are wondering what to give someone as a gift, why not give them some of your time and help them declutter? You must know them well to make that offer, but it's a great gift!

I'm unsure what happened to me, but I've been craving something weird since last week. What's that craving? Bran muffins! Do not ask me why, but I have one a day, and I can't wait for the afternoon to have that as a snack! It's all about discipline! And without going into a lot of detail, since sitting is sometimes not the most comfortable thing for me, bran muffins are great!

Anyway - it's time to get the day started!!!

Have a super day!!!

Ciao!!!
