And it's still snowing!

Well, there's nothing much to discuss this morning except the snow! I didn't want to repeat what happened last week when I had a foot of snow to clear from the driveway, so right after my three Zooms, it was time to grab that shovel.

And this was what it looked like as I finished Round One. Yes - it was still snowing, so as quickly as I shoveled, the snow fell on the other side. But getting rid of at least that much will help.

Round One

Just before we started the Virtual Retreat, it was time to hit the driveway again. And the same thing, it's still snowing, so as I'm clearing, the other side is getting hit with more snow. Each of those two times it took about 30 minutes. Thankfully, I could use the scraper and push the snow to the sides, and I even lifted a few scraperfuls over the snow banks.

Round Two

This snow is WET, so it's good that I'm dealing with it a bit at a time. I come in, my jacket is wet, my hair is wet.

After logging off the Virtual Retreat at 9 p.m., I went out again. This time, the snow was much wetter, and I could see water dripping off the icicles attached to the eaves' troughs. It was definitely time to scrape to the sides and lift with the shovel. The snow was much heavier and deeper. Lifting the snow above those snowbanks is getting more challenging, but I'm trying to keep the driveway as clear as possible.

Round Three

I'm going out right after the blog this morning to shovel again, but the heaviest snow is coming this morning. Now, where the heck is that going to go? One possibility is to keep one side of the drive open and shovel the snow in the other half, but I hate doing that—it looks so untidy. So slow and steady, I'll find a place for it all.

I hope this helps my bone density. I don't mind shoveling the snow; I just wish we didn't have so much to deal with at once! But this is Canada, and we have not had snowfalls like this in a long, long time.

What drives me mad are the idiots and their garbage. These incidents are not on my street but close by. Someone put out a huge glass aquarium (are there any other kinds?), which is now buried under a snow bank on their front curb. That's a disaster waiting to happen. If that thing does not break, I'll be surprised.

Then, yesterday, I spotted someone who tossed a kitchen counter beside their snow bank. Did they think the garbage truck was coming to pick it up? It's long and skinny—it could go alongside the house or in the garage until the curbs are clear. I know this is mean, but I hope they catch their vehicle on it with all the snow since this was put out!! It would serve them right. It's dangerous and could get caught by a plow, damaging the plow, and then we're down one vehicle. In situations like this, they should be fined.

Garbage just tossed on the curb

But someone is so happy with the snow. Actually, the two of them are in their glory and spending a lot of time outside. Even the princess!

MOM - we love snow days!!!!

But with all the snow, they come in and are snow-covered, so they get a quick rubdown. Perhaps it's the rubdown they want, not to play outside! Those girls are big attention seekers.

I'm on one of the Zoom class calls, and Murphy is trying to get as close as possible! Why? I have no idea!

MOM - I NEED you NOW!!!!

But DH arrived home in the snow last night, and I bet Miss Lexi is happy because her Dad is home. They can watch sports together on the couch, so she may not be out as much today.

Earlier in the day, I prepped for the Virtual Retreat. I put several non-sewing things I wanted to accomplish on the work table. As you know, everything takes longer than planned, and I was unpicking a few things. It's the perfect thing to do while chatting. I didn't quite finish, but I hope to finish the unpicking and move on to other things later today. It's these sorts of finished projects that make up clutter. So I'm doing my best. And what doesn't get done today will have to wait another day. They are also good projects for Monday Sewing, which is tomorrow.

My "work" for the Virtual Retreat

The forecast for the next few days is OK, with some sun, but that only starts tomorrow. We must get through today, which will require several sessions with the driveway during the day. Hopefully, I can clear it tomorrow morning and have a break for a bit!

I may have to rethink what I sit upon in my film area. I have two small orange stools, and they work. They are not the most comfortable, but they work for me. However, they are not the most stable things to sit on, and I have always wondered what would happen if I slipped off. Well, now I know! I banged my forehead against the table. There is no bump or bruise, but the darn spot is sore. I chuckled as I was on Zoom one minute, and then I was not! But I'm good! So, I just need to focus a bit more.

I could use something else, but because I'm turning in all directions and the space is tight, the back of a chair will wing things off the table, so I like the stool. But I should find a sturdier stool! It would be great to have a swivel stool so I wouldn't have to shift! And one on wheels would be even better!

It's with great anticipation that I tackle the driveway once again! Doing it more frequently and clearing the entire space is a pain, but spending hours clearing only one small section is worse! So far, all is good, with no sore muscles, although I felt it more yesterday when shoveling. However, that was because I was trying to lift the bigger scraper with snow. Do not be an idiot—lift with the shovel!

Per my orders, DH is not allowed to shovel. There is no sense in damaging that new shoulder, but he will be 100% responsible for shoveling next year! Plus, I don't think he has the range of motion to get the snow over the banks!

Did I mention that I fell off the front step the other day while shoveling? It's a two-foot drop. However, it wasn't so much that I fell; the snow had already reached the height of the step, and I stepped off the edge and into the snow past my knee! Oh gosh -- silly me! But all is good.

Here is the Zoom link for the Virtual Retreat. If I'm not on the call at the beginning, it's because I'm tackling the driveway one more time!

  1. I rather enjoy shoveling snow. We've been getting just 1-3" at a time but we've had years where we woke to 12-14" here. This morning it's snowing and blowing but not nearly an inch so I haven't been out yet.

I've been in my studio since 0530. Binding attached to another quilt and pressed out ready for hand stitching (I hand finish all my quilts), borders cut and sewn on a flimsy from last week and it's binding is cut/stitched/pressed and coiled. So far, a fun snowy day!

We're NASCAR fans so binding it is for 6 hours! I have 1.5 quilts to work on so I may have 2 finishes today 😊🎊

    Happy Sunday.

  2. Hi Elaine,
One of the quilt shops up north has DeWalt stools at the sewing machines. They are ment for a mechanic workshop but ideal for what you are looking for. They are heavy duty with heavy duty wheels ( I think they lock) and have a comfy seat. Louise
