A clarification about the Color My World class: Yes, that class will be on Zoom, so you can live anywhere and still participate. You can even be on vacation and still attend the class. It will be a one-hour session once a month on the weekend. The classes will be recorded and available to rewatch for 30 days after the class, and I will send my notes to everyone. We'll have a Facebook group so we can share our homework.
You will be responsible for purchasing a pattern, and I'll provide sources. Actually, I should do that now so you can acquire it. You can download this pattern, which is a bonus. You can buy the pattern directly from Wendy Williams, and it costs $50 CDN. You may be able to find it cheaper on another site—I didn't look. The quilt measures 67" square.
I'm making a list of interested people, will firm up commitments, and will arrange the class fee a bit closer to the date. The plan is to start in October and go until at least June, but maybe longer, as there is a lot of work in this quilt.
There's no need to do anything except email me (elainetheriault@gmail.com) to express interest. If you are super serious, then you can purchase the pattern. Then, you wait until the end of July??? to hear more details.

I have something else for EVERYONE to contemplate. Yesterday was our UFO Club, and we saw loads of homework being completed. However, there was one thing that we all realized wasn't happening for us. In the UFO Club, we mostly work on larger projects that have been set aside for whatever reason. I'm currently working on Vintage Christmas by Lori Holt. I'll share a picture tomorrow, as well as the jacket, as I didn't get a chance to take one yesterday.
But many of us realized that while working on those big projects, what about the small ones? The ones that are almost finished? Those create clutter in our sewing spaces—the ones like this.

It's a cushion cover. The two sides are completely done, and the invisible zipper is installed. All that remains is to serge the three remaining sides, and the cushion is complete. Now, how long will it take to finish? Maybe 30 minutes since I have to change the thread color on the AIR THREADING serger, which takes less than a minute. But we all know things always take a bit longer to tidy up threads, secure ends, etc. So I give myself 30 minutes, and this could be done.
The big question is how many other projects are sitting on my worktables that could be completed within one hour or less? Should we leave them where they are, or should they be assembled in one location so they make a statement and we remember to work on them? Like this pile of quilts that need binding! Yikes! I had better get binding quilts!

So your challenge is to find ONE project today that can be finished in 60 minutes or less. I have three things right by the sewing machine that will take maybe one minute each to sew—that's my goal for today. WAIT—not only do you have to find one, but you have to finish it!
As for the backyard makeover, we have ZERO plans to move. The backyard is one of the many reasons that we have no intention of going anywhere. That backyard is our crown jewels, and I spend an enormous amount of time out there. I am happy to spend time weeding it, laying mulch, or whatever needs to be done. I do not do it for the benefit of the backyard or for future owners. I do it so I can enjoy it now! Some plants were dead and dying and needed to be replaced. Last year, we rebuilt the gazebo because I sit out there any chance I get!
I am always amazed by this: People decide to sell their house and then work on the bathrooms or repaint or whatever. Why not make those changes while you are in the house so you can enjoy them? I could never figure that one out!
I popped to the hardware store and picked up 10 bags of mulch, three bags of soil, and a new tool. That little trip took 30 minutes from the time I left until the bags were in the backyard! I don't waste time shopping!

I have a few things that need to be done today, so I decided to make a list. I don't usually make a list, but this morning, I did to help keep me on track. Let's see how well I do.
Ciao!!!!

All my nearly done stuff was finished in 2024! Yay me. And I spent the first 3 months of this year on new starts-all finished and donated to a program that builds beds for kids. I'm dragging my feet on my remaining UFOs. All are in 5-50% of blocks completed.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely get home the way we want it. My older sister bought a much smaller home 3y after her husband died. From day 1 she wanted changes and I kept telling her to spend the $ "now"! So what did she do? She waited 13 years to start. Probably cost her twice as much!!
Have a great week!
