I was never a person to take supplements. What do I need those for when I am eating "whole" foods? I've come to realize that unless I grow whole foods in my nonexistent garden, I'm probably not getting all the nutrition I need. Additionally, our bodies change as we age and are no longer able to produce the same supplements we need. And that whole bone density thing. So I take Vitamin D and Calcium for that. The vitamin D was on the "order" from the doctor, and the Calcium thing is mine. I take a multi-vitamin, and just recently added B12 since I've heard so many positive things about it, or bad things because of the lack of it. I've added turmeric and a probiotic, although I'm not sure why the latter. I bought a grape-flavored gummy, and it has an interesting taste!!!
I have flaxseed in my oatmeal each day, but I'm not sure that it does anything. I've always wondered if whole or ground flaxseed is better, or if it's more effective in a pill form. I guess this is why people go to a natureopath - to figure all this stuff out. The bottom line - at this point in time, I'm feeling pretty healthy, so I'll continue what I'm doing. I'm sure a naturopath would have me on many more things, but that can become a very costly endeavour. I'm not going that route. I see some people who obsess about these things and are "hooked" on every word their naturepath says. I believe that common sense is what we genuinely need, and staying active, both mentally and physically, is essential.
I see fish oil on the list. DH takes that. Guess what? Did you ever take cod liver oil when you were a kid? That was a staple at our house. ICK!!!
Thanks to everyone who shared what they take. I think I'm on track.
I had a great spin class and noticed that the price of gas was $ 140.90 per liter, or something like that. That was at 6 AM.
When I was walking past a different gas station, about 4 KMs from the first one, and the time was now 9:30ish, look at the price difference! The operators of gas stations know that we are a lazy society and are willing to pay that extra price because we were too tired to fill up the night before. That's common here and pretty drastic. Imagine living in a province (such as Saskatchewan) where the price never fluctuates!

I went back to the thrift store on Sunday and secured my treasures. This is one of the Dowdle puzzles that I like. It was still there from the previous day.

But I had also spotted a 1000-piece Ravensburger puzzle, and the subject matter was The Lion King. After the Africa trip, I thought it was pretty appropriate, so I decided to buy it. Only to discover when I got there the next day, it was GONE!!! Just a big open space on the shelf. NO!!!!!!
But I found this instead. I'll have to get this one done and pass it along to someone who is going to Africa in January who also likes puzzles. We need to go back, as we did not go to the park where the flamingos are.

Although fewer pieces, it's probably a much nicer picture than The Lion King. Is it October yet? Then I will have time to do puzzles again! I need to get working on some since the shelf is getting rather crowded, and I must get some done and donate them back!
I bought a few more things which I share another day.
After Monday Sewing, where I didn't get a whole lot done, although I finished my machine embroidery piece, I got to work.
I made the binding for this small piece. I'm just realizing that I forgot to pull fabric for the back. I'll do that later today. I won't be quilting it until October, but it's nice to have things ready to go.

The binding for one small quilt
The binding and the backing also got made for this one. It will also be quilted in October when things settle down. DO NOT laugh when I say that because at this moment, the October, November, and December calendars are wide open. Yes -- there is the potential to have some events slip in, but there is NOTHING big going to happen. Well, it could, but I doubt it. And with a much smaller slate of classes, the weekends are free as well. OK -- not all, but more days of the weekend are open.

By the way, I hope to get another email to the Colour My World group today with the final details about signing up. So watch for that. And if you did not get an email from me a month ago with the details and are interested, let me know --- elainetheriault@gmail.com.
This is the ONLY quilt I'll be teaching, online or in person, for this year. I am teaching an online jacket class at Thimbles and Things, and you can find more information here. I'll put a complete list of things on the blog tomorrow. A full list! There are only two things: the Jacket class and Colour My World. That's it!!!!

Pressing the binding on the towel
I made binding for another quilt that I'm in the process of quilting, and I have to say that I LOVE pressing that binding with the towel on the ironing surface. There is ZERO movement, zero slippage, and I LOVE it. This quilt is being quilted with the embroidery machine, and you'll see it if you come to the Buckhorn Quilt Show this coming weekend.
I made one more binding, which is for the big quilt I quilted on the long arm the other day. It is now stitched to the quilt, and I'll top stitch it later today. I still need to make a binding for the one on the long arm, and I've pulled the fabric for that.

One more binding made!
The binding is entirely on this quilt, and that's a LONG TIME UFO complete!!!! Yeah!!!!! It's also going to the show. Don't worry -- for those who can't attend the show, I'll take videos and pictures of the various projects, so you can participate from the comfort of your own home!

I'm getting good at having the embroidery machine working while I sew on the other machine.

Using two machines at once!
And my Designer EPIC 3 doesn't know what hit it. It's done more machine embroidery in the last three days than it has for a very long time!!
I had all my boxes of thread out of the cupboard and on the table or on the floor so I could grab the thread I wanted. Wait until you see what I've stitched. First, those coming to the show get to see it, and then I'll post it all. I'm very pleased with the results.

LOVE these boxes for my embroidery thread
And I had this box of ribbon out to finish off some things. Oh my --- wait until you see what I stitched. They are super cute!!!! I know you'll all want one! What's even better is that this box of ribbon and the fabric have been sitting in the "to be embroidered" box for many, many months, and it's finally happening!!! I will have loads for show and tell with the machine embroidery club this coming Sunday.

Technically, I have three more large hoops of machine embroidery to do before I leave. They don't need to be done, but I want to have them done. Hopefully, all will work out, and it will happen. These last three are nowhere near as large as the previous ones I did, so that will help speed things up. I also have that quilt on the long arm to deal with today.
I am taking the embroidery machine to the quilt show so I can work on some projects if I have time. People always love to see the machines work. Most of what is on the cutting table at the moment is the remainder of the things I want to prep, so I'll have something to stitch. I got some of the prep work done yesterday -- finding threads, packing appropriate tools, and the projects. So a few more to throw in the bag and I've got it covered.

So what about this cutie pie!!! She has reverted to her old habit of pulling on the leash, and I'm trying to teach her the 'pole pole' command. It's not working very well, but a good sit-down in the forest is a good place to start. She comes back from her walk panting like mad, and it's not hot! She's just excited!!!
![]() |
MOM -- everything is exciting!!!
But thankfully, she does have some quiet moments, and I love how she used one of my projects as a pillow! Oh, Murphy -- it's hard for Mom to get mad at you with those sweet eyes!

MOM -- I LOVE YOU!!!!!
And on that note, I'm out of here! The desktop surrounding the computer is a total disaster. I don't even dare show it -- it's that bad! And it's going to stay that way until the end of the month, when I have some time to properly sort it out.
WAIT ---- Thanks to someone who forwarded a link to me about ME!!! In this video, if you go to the 20:16 mark, this person comments on my free bag pattern, which you can find in her link, or I'll post it here. That's my bag --- actually, that was the very first pattern I submitted to a magazine, and the rest is history!!!! I still have that bag, and wait — I might take it to the Buckhorn Quilt Show with me!

Reminder to pair magnesium with calcium for bone health.
ReplyDeleteGreat work on your projects! Have a great show. I'm excited for your low key months ahead. Can't wait to see what you create and FINISH!
Oh -- I'm beyond excited for those low key months and pray that they do not get filled up!!! I'm also excited to get back to finishing things. This summer, I think I have FIVE UFOs done. I'll have to reflect on that -- but I think it's five. That's huge for me!!!!
