Storm at Sea!

Have you ever made a Storm at Sea quilt?  I have - remember this from around Christmas time (2014) .......

Storm at Sea quilt

Looks beautiful - calm, peaceful - right!

Well a REAL storm at sea doesn't look like that!!!   Yesterday was a wicked day here.  It was rainy, the winds were up and it was cold!!!!   Even the fishing boats were NOT out yesterday.   Have a look at what happened on the stormy day..............

First off - it was such an icky day and I needed to get a few things - I decided to take a drive to Charlottetown. I was impressed by my neighbour the other day when she was on the beach - she had rain boots. Now why didn't I think of that????   I don't mind walking on the beach in bare feet, but it is a tad cold for bare feet - so the order of the day was to find rain boots.

Sparky's big nose checking out my "fancy" rain boots that I got on sale at Joe Fresh

There were several places in town where I could find rain boots, but I didn't want to be driving all over the place so I got the boots at the first place I stopped.  Turns out the rain boot season is over. I had to get size TEN!!!!   There were no nines and the eights were just snug.  So off to the men's department to get socks!!!!   Big WARM work socks.

Boots and socks - all set for a stormy day at the beach!!!!

I'll fill you in on the rest of my adventures in Charlottetown another day!

But I think you get the picture that rain boots were necessary........

Mud on the way to the beach

Once we arrived at the beach, of course I wanted to get some photos. The best place was to walk to the rocks at the end of the beach to get some shelter.  The wind was blowing inland and so it was a challenge to walk. At one point I turned around to see where the girls were...............

Beachcomber Sammy was WAY behind
But where was Sparky????

Oh! right on my tail so I could BLOCK the wind for her!!!!!  Smart dog!!!

Look at those red feet!

Nice and dry and WARM!!!!!!

Socks: $8 (for two pair)
Boots: $20
Warm and dry feet: PRICELESS
But my pants were wet!!!!

The girls are loving the beach although I think they prefer the forest since there is MUCH more variety there. However Sammy seems to be doing a good job scouring the beach for anything edible. Sparky doesn't care. Some things in her have changed a LOT since she had that bout with vestibular. But she is still the same old Sparky!!!!!

A jaunty walk on the beach

Oh Mommy - that looks scary!!!!!

Sparky!
Despite the crazy winds and the rain, the seagulls were out looking for stuff. One day, Sammy better watch out that she doesn't have a run in with one!!!!

Seagulls on a stormy day
Let's just say that the ocean looked ANGRY.   It was heaving from beneath.  You could feel the power of the water and the pressure of the undertow although none of us ventured near the water. At one point as we were walking along, the waves came over our feet (again - thankful for those boots) and Sparky got knocked off her feet by the force.

Storm at Sea - not so pretty!!!!

The waves were really forced high on the beach

More waves!!!
The noise was incredible. There was a constant crashing of waves and through it all, there appeared to be a very loud hum - it sounded like an engine yet there were no boats in the water.

Because the wind was blowing in the opposite direction from the previous days, the sand was going in the opposite direction also.

Rocks left bare by the wind.

But today is another day and this is the sunrise!!!!!    Yes - the sun is out and there is NO wind - well just a light breeze.  We are going to take a walk and well who knows what we will do today.

Sun rise

Exhausted after the beach walk!

These pictures were taken with my phone a couple of days ago. Just for comparison with the storm.

That is a fishing net that went astray and washed up on shore. The next day it was gone.

Lots of people drive on the beach. Why?  No idea. And look at Little Sammy with her nose to the ground beachcombing!!!!

The black is dirt that blew off the farmer's field as he was cultivating it the other day

What doesn't belong????

Well another crazy busy day planned!!!!    HA!!!!   Oh yes - I have loads of things that I want to do, the weather is coorperating and well - let's just see what we accomplish.

On that note - have an awesome day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ciao!
