Beyond disaster (for me)

I don't know what it was, but I couldn't sleep last night. As a result, I got up and watched a work-related video, and then it was REALLY late for me, and I got up late, and the blog is late, and my entire day will be behind! Do I care? Not really! I like being on schedule, but it isn't going to happen today, and guess what? It's my schedule today -- no pickups, no dropoffs, no Zoom. It is me alone who dictates when and what I do!

Based on the state of the house, I had better do some tidying.

The ironing board is covered with batting bits (I dealt with them last night while I watched the video) and the backing for the next quilt. I sort of sorted that out as well last night.

The ironing board is a disaster

The cutting mat is almost beyond being used as a cutting mat. There is stuff on the floor that has to be dealt with. Some things on the floor and the cutting table are purchases I've made in the last three weeks and are still unpacked. This is not good.

Is there a cutting mat under that mess?

The pile of scraps on the cutting table is overflowing significantly.

Drawers are still hanging open from when I searched for stuff to pack or the last-minute embroidery I did last week. They still look like that!

Boxes on the floor need to be dealt with and put away. This is from making samples in the last couple of weeks.

My worktables are not in bad shape but are still in disarray. My goal today is to clear all the stuff on the worktables and not remove it by hiding it somewhere else but by completing the work!

My worktables

I didn't take a picture of the heap of quilts that need to be bound! I can barely see over it now!

Not only is Studio B a mess, but the kitchen table is covered with my stuff. This was EMPTY when I arrived home one day ago, and I did a great job of filling it with stuff. Some things have been put away, but most have not.

Suitcases of clothes and projects are still hanging out in the front hall.

However, I did manage to get some work done, which was great! I got the binding on another of those small community project quilts.

Binding is done on a community project quilt

Actually, I got the binding on two of them, which leaves four more on the worktables.

And this is quilt number two of the second batch of eleven that I hope to get done for Quilts of Valour. The deadline is November 11, but I must have them done by November 10, as I have plans for November 11. The next one is already loaded on the long arm and ready to go this morning.

Quilts of Valour quilt - DONE

I have much computer work to get done, and I'll try to work that in around the quilting.

As someone mentioned last week, I am passionate about what I do. I am, but I really think that obsessed is a better word. I will leave everything I don't want to do untouched, but I could quilt and sew every day. That is odd behavior, and I wish I wasn't quite so obsessed. Ah -- who cares! It's the admin side of what I do that I fail at. Well, I don't fail at it; I'm just slow!

On that note, I'm off to walk the girls. And I'm only 1/2 hour behind on my daily schedule!

Have a great day!

Ciao!

  1. Ah, you'll get through it. I see a lot of 5 minute tasks and the kitchen table is 1 minute. Suitcase to the washing machine/hamper for unloading.......you'll be done with most of that in less than an hour! :-)

    Happy walking!!!

  2. I sometimes feel obsessed would describe me too! If I’m deeply into a project and my husband calls me that lunch is ready, my first thought is “why are you interrupting me? I’m busy! When it should be “that’s lovely, he’s made lunch” I think it’s just the connotation of the words, passionate to me gives the impression of solid dedication, whereas obsessed gives out a vibe of tunnel vision, nothing else matters. I think I know now, I’m obsessed!
Going off topic, I just watched a great presentation from Thimbles and Things and noticed that there was another well known quilt store participating? Do stores usually do this? Didn’t feel quite right to me.

  3. Tidy day for me too. Finished up a quilt top this morning. Went and dropped it off to be long armed. Now I need to tidy house before I return to my sewing room and set things back in order. The good news is time change tonight so an extra hour to sew guilt free tomorrow.
