Recipes to Riches

Have you heard of this show?????   Since I don't watch TV and not much into cooking - this one totally escaped me. On the way to the retreat, Mary and I had a great chat about many things and she introduced me to this show. No - I am not watching it, but we tried the food.

It is sponsored by Loblaws. They did a casting call a while ago  in several Canadian cities. Regular people made their recipes and went through some kind of selection process in a number of categories. Bottom line - the show features the top three in each category. Then they have some challenges and the winner gets $25,000 AND their product goes into the grocery store. How cool is that!!!!!!  They are also a finalist for the $250,000 grand prize!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So while in Bracebridge we went to the Independent store (which is part of the Loblaws family) and picked up some of the products to try.

Luscious Lemon -
Glo McNeill's Luscious Lemon Pudding won the Sweet Puddings and Pies category.

Individually packaged - four to a box

Rock n Peach Bliss Cheesecake

Jacqui Keseluk's Multi-Layered Peach Cake came in first place in the Cakes category.

Besides the Recipe to Riches desserts - we did have OTHER desserts. Carol bought this pie at the general store. Their pies are to die for!!!!

With Sharron's peanut butter cookies - I think we had all the dessert food categories covered!!!!!

And I had a sampling (notice SMALL) of each

Of the two Recipes to Riches products - the lemon pudding was the BEST. I would buy that again!!!!!  No one was that keen on the cheesecake, but when I brought the leftovers home and ate them - they were not that bad. I think you needed a BIGGER piece to get the real taste!!!!   Well that is my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!

Here is another winning product.........................

Savoury Bannock-topped Pie
Melaney Gleeson-Lyall's Bannock Hazelnut Pie won the Savoury Pies category.

Mary purchased the pie to eat at home. We ran out of meals where we could have tasted this.

There are two more products that we did not buy.............

John Grass' savoury Grilled Chicken Skewers won the Appetizers category.

Sonya Walos' delectable Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies won the Sweet and Savoury Snacks category.

There are two remaining categories - Frozen Treats and Entrees.

Once all seven finalist products have been revealed - then it is up to the public to vote - (I don't know how) - on the products.

Check out your local Loblaws, Fortinos, Zehrs, no frills - well any of the stores in that Loblaws chain. They should have a display with all the products.

Oh yes - if you want to check out more information about the show - here is the link to the web site

We are going to have a GRAND TASTE TEST when all the products are out.

Marian has a really nice case that she keeps all her Valdani Perle cotton in. I am jealous because over the years, I have accumulated a number of balls of the perle cotton and it is languishing in a plastic bag. Linda was able to tell me that the case (similiar to Marian's) was available at Lowe's. But now to get to Lowe's. There isn't one close to me.

Then while out on my errands yesterday, I had to pop into Fabricland. And guess what - I found a COOL case to store the perle cotton in - what do you think??????

Oh - what is all that good stuff inside??????

I mean is that not the BEST thread organizer around!!!!!!    The case is $29.98!!!!    Yikes - I won't pay that price, but if it is BUY ONE, GET TWO FREE - I will buy that!!!!!   That means they are TEN DOLLARS each. There were only two at this particular Fabricland and when a certain someone heard about my purchase - well she claimed one as her own!!!!   (as a Christmas present!!!) Thankfully Ronda was also on her way to Fabricland (a different one) and she scooped another one for me!!!   And one for her and a gift. They are excellent.   I am going to use the second one to control some of the thread I have around here that is languishing in plastic bags.

And yes - I did manage to get a customer quilt done yesterday.

Customer Quilt

All I will say is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - measure your borders BEFORE you sew them on. DO NOT just take strips of fabric and sew them on. This quilt had a FEW issues with the sides. Anyway - NUFF SAID - just MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE!!!!

On that note - I have a couple of things to prepare before leaving for Monday.

Have a great day!!!!!

Ciao!!!!!!
