Using time wisely

You must go back and read Elle's answers to my questions. It sounds like she had loads of stuff, but it was all neatly organized. A "catastrophic" event (needing a new carpet) was when she realized that she had too much.

For me, the moment was when we had a water leak in the basement. Nothing was damaged (we were blessed), but the walls and floors had to be redone, so everything had to be moved. That was my moment.

She was much faster at resolving the issue than me! But I'm getting there—I'm a turtle—slow and steady.

I hope your event won't be as dramatic as those mentioned above, but whatever it takes to get started, hopefully, you will find that moment.

The unthinkable happened yesterday. Somehow, I've pulled a muscle in my left glut, and well, let's just say that it's a tad uncomfortable! I didn't walk any greater distance than usual; I didn't lift anything, but I've been dealing with an issue in that glut for a while, and I guess it decided to raise its ugly head in a big way. Let's say I might be standing all day! Even sleeping is not comfortable. But I'll soldier on and hope that it heals relatively quickly!

Some of you take your car to an independent mechanic for service, but I have always taken it to the dealer. But I'm beginning to think dealers schedule appointments the same way that many doctors schedule their appointments. Let's book four people for the same time slot and hope some people don't show!

I arrived at 10:15 but only left at 10:30, as several cars were ahead of me, waiting to be received.

Then I went on my errands. I knew the appointment would be long as we had to have the car's scheduled service done, change the tires, and replace the tail light that someone (I won't mention any names) broke last year. I walked along this busy street with sidewalks, but I swear that no one else would consider walking along that street. It's really geared for cars.

I found the perfect Christmas gift for DH and me. Here's a hint.

No, it's not a puzzle, although that would be hilarious, and it's not a new house. But I'm pretty excited, and I need to take a few pictures of my backyard and then go back because what I'm getting would be a tad tricky to walk around with. I know a few feathery friends are going to be very excited!

Then I popped into Chapters (Indigo) and had a look. There was nothing much new in the way of quilting magazines. What magazines are left are mostly now quarterly and don't change often. I did purchase a magazine on writing your family history, which I MUST get started on. Maybe this will give me a starting point.

I checked out the thrift store in that neighborhood but didn't buy anything. I'm getting so much better at window shopping than I used to be. I get ideas or inspiration and leave everything else behind. I returned the speaker that I had purchased a couple of weeks ago.

I picked up a couple of necessities at Fabricland, then picked up lunch and returned to the dealership in time to log into my conference call.

After the conference call, I grabbed my documents from the shared drive and continued to work on prepping one of the presentations for the weekend. By the time I completed most of the work I had brought, I got bored.

So I found the advisor to ask how much longer. One more hour! Good grief! So, I played with social media for an hour. It was almost 5 p.m. by the time I drove out!

All the staff were frazzled because it had been a very long day for some, and the valet driver said they had got caught with some extras with cars in the afternoon. I'd love to know how their garage works because it doesn't seem efficient at all. Do they work on multiple vehicles at once? I bet my car saw three different technicians because of the three separate jobs. I was VERY CLEAR that there were three things to be done, so my car wasn't a surprise to them, but I bet others were not.

And then you have the people who are not happy! An "older" lady was there with her husband. I think they were getting their tires changed and were told they needed new tires. She was NOT happy - he was just there and said nothing. She demanded to see the old tires before she paid for the service. No one had time at that moment, so she had to wait. Later, I saw her and one of the advisors in the service bay inspecting the old tires. Everyone seemed happy, and the old tires were kept at the dealer.

The time it takes for them to do the job used to drive me crazy, but I learned to change my attitude and mindset. Now, I use the time to get my errands done in that area and set my own expectations. When I asked the advisor if she thought the car would be done by 4 or 5 p.m., she said, "Oh no—it should be done by 2:30." My expectation stayed at 4 or 5, and I was right! I think they could do a better job at setting expectations because that also can affect how we react!

As they say, there are loads of things you can't change, but you can change your reaction. I've just learned that getting the car serviced at the dealer will take time. I've already prepaid for the services for several years, and it's worth it for me to do so. They have a big, beautiful space to work in and free Wi-Fi, and I'm OK with waiting.

I took care of more CDs/DVDs, and this is the stack that remains. I've now got it on my desk.

What's left of the first round of CDs

What remains are those Christmas DVDs, which, after going to the other thrift shop, I see that they will take, so they are going in the donation box. There are a few games or other programs that I"ll evaluate before letting them go. And I've got a few film cassettes transferred to CD that I need to load into the hard disk. So, hopefully, this box will be empty soon and off the table.

CDs still left to deal with

There are some VHS tapes in the buffet, and I think most of them have been transferred to CD, so I need to transfer the data and get rid of them.

VHS tapes

OK -- so I just pulled all those tapes out and put them on the table. I might as well keep plugging at this, and then I'll have empty space in that cupboard. What am I going to do with all these empty spaces? KEEP THEM EMPTY!!!

As I remove anything of value from the CDs, which has been extremely little for the number of CDs I've tossed, I'm trying to organize them on my hard disks.

It's all about baby steps, and I cannot imagine leaving this to M to figure out. I can create a folder for videos of M, DH, and myself, along with relevant photos, and give the whole thing to M. If she wishes to view it, she can. But it'll be labeled and sorted on one small hard disk, and she won't have to worry about photos or videos. That's a long-term goal, but first, we must get everything in one place.

I can walk just fine with that pulled muscle, but sitting? Not so good. The pain is constant, whatever I do, so it's not going to be a fun day, and I have a lot of work to do! Oh well—the show must go on!

On that note, I'm off to walk the girls. This morning's walk may be shorter. I'll see how it goes when I get outside.

Have a super day!!!
