A "ME" Day

Years ago, someone told me we should schedule ME days in our calendar. Those would be days when you get to do things for yourself. I've tried but have been unsuccessful, and while yesterday wasn't really an ME day, I didn't sew and ran around for ME.

I made a list of things that needed to be done—emails that needed to be responded to and many other things. I went to bed last night with two things left on the list. Both are responding to emails, so I can do that while I'm away. Yep, I'm away for a few days.

But here's what happened yesterday!

Remember those missing things? I did not find the missing embroidery file. However, looking for that, I found this book I was trying to find a couple of weeks ago. Yeah! I had remembered the cover, but I was sure the book had a spiral binding—it does not!

A missing book is now found!

But I found the printout of the embroidery file I was searching for - Elf Alphabet.

AHA --- I'm not dreaming - I did have these embroidery designs

Oh gosh --- look at the date when I printed this!

OK -- so I bought it a while ago!

Now that I knew where I purchased the file and what it was called, I found it online! It's about $25 US to purchase. I didn't have time yesterday, but I know where it is.

The design is still online

I did find another alphabet embroidery file that I could use for my project, so I didn't need the elf alphabet, which was the one that I remember buying. The problem is that I never had a physical copy of it, so who knows where I stored the digitals? Hmm—maybe it's on a USB stick!

A different embroidery design I can use

However, did you notice something about that previous picture? Yes -- the files I wanted are on a FLOPPY disk. Oh gosh -- where the heck is the floppy disk drive. Could I presume it's with the USBs? Yes -- because it wasn't where it used to be.

THINK  - THINK - THINK!!!!!

Oh, I remember what I did with all that stuff. Remember when I cleaned the desk drawers and had an empty drawer? That's where I put all this stuff.

The missing USBs

This is hilarious because as I was searching the desktop, it never occurred to me to search the drawers! That used to be filled with crap!!!!

But here's the box with the USBs.

A box filled with USBs

And there's a bag filled with MORE USBs.

Even more USBs

I can only imagine the mess of files that awaits me when I go through them all. And who knows -- I may find that missing embroidery file!!!  For now, I've MOVED a whole pile of files to my new hard disk, which is so small that I can carry it in my office backpack, and I'll start to whittle away at the files. I'll delete what I can move some to the Cloud storage if appropriate, and create folders for the rest. It will be fun and games, but I'll have some downtime in the evenings over the next few days.

I also had to prepare a presentation last night that I forgot about, but it's done! I have to do one presentation while I'm away. I tried to move what I could, but there was no room, and it was too late for a notice. I meant to do it earlier. No big deal!

I had to take a bunch of photos in preparation for some writing. I took those, loaded them into the file, and they are ready for writing.

I chuckled when I got my Fitbit report for last week. Yes, I put on a pile of steps, and it's funny how different it can be from one week to another. The previous week, I must have had some down days.

That's a lot of steps

With all that I did yesterday, I walked almost 16 km. No wonder I fell into bed exhausted!

I dropped off that hard disk to see if they can recover the data. While in the building lobby, I spotted this. Good grief—I haven't been out in the world. I guess this is the equivalent of a vending machine, but it serves hot food. I didn't notice how it worked, but it was quite the thing!

A hot-food vending machine

While in the parking lot, I snapped this photo of the Marilyn Monroe buildings! They are unique and have fascinated me since they were built many years ago. Gosh—they were completed in 2012!!!

The Marilyn Monroe buildings

Speaking of amazing, check out this article on the Gordie Howe International Bridge that someone sent me. It's amazing to see the two sides come together. Can you imagine building a quilt like that? Every time a new piece of roadway is placed, it's checked and probably triple-checked that it's in the right place. It wouldn't be fun if those two parts didn't meet in the middle.

With all that technology, it's hard to believe that some vehicles still operate with a key! On my way home, I stopped to buy one more red chair for the backyard. I'll take a picture when it's all done. That got me to look at the tables as ours is very old and starting to show its age. A nice black table was on sale, so I bought it and realized it wouldn't fit in my car.

The nice ladies at the desk helped me get it home. I was going to pay to have it delivered, but since it wasn't on a skid, they wouldn't do it. HEY—do you have a van I can rent? Well, it took longer to do all the paperwork than to drive the darn table home and put it in the garage. I'll deal with the table when I'm home.

A key - where do I put that?

I went for a walk and stopped at the thrift store. This tablecloth reminded me of a fabric I designed and screen printed years ago!

A pretty tablecloth

Someone just bought a lot of yarn, as these bins were full the other day and were almost empty yesterday!!! I did not buy anything—I had no money with me!

The yarn bin is almost empty

Someone asked about Bear! Yes, we miss him, but I don't seem to have much time to miss him. Here's a picture of him out for a walk. He's so adorable, and we miss his sassy attitude!!!

Bear out for a walk

Well, that's it for today. I have a plane to catch in a few hours and a few things to do before I leave. Let's hope it isn't delayed!

Have a super day!!!

Ciao!!!

  1. I read a great book in 2 mornings. Walking: One Step at a Time by Erling Kagge. Maybe 2h w/real book in hand. I recommend that to enjoy the journey with him rather than listening to it.
