The brain works in MYSTERIOUS ways

Yes - it is time to start thinking about classes for the fall. What to choose???   Well I have had such positive response from the ongoing classes that they are at forefront of my mind. I have thought about Dear Jane for a LONG time, but never got myself organized to make it happen. Then I thought about it again the other day and decided to unearth the book to have a second look.

Hmmmm - searched the bookcases (even did a bit of reorganizing - that is an ENTIRE day or more project). No Dear Jane book. Shoot - where could it be???   Have I misplaced it, lent it, lost it, missed it in the search??? Well I did NOT give up, but wasn't going to waste any more time on looking for it at this time.

Bear with me for one minute.

I found a new author. Margaret Maron. I saw one of her books on a recent list that came from the library. Hmmm - this looks interesting, but I realized that the books followed a character. Deborah Knott. Well it just won't do to start reading the most recent - NO - I have to go back and start from the beginning. Her first book written in 1992!!!!!!   Bootlegger's Daughter. OH MY GOODNESS!!!!   While I LOVE the book and LOVE the character, the book takes place in 1990. And in the south. Involves visible minorities including blacks, women and gays. Holy cow!!!!!   We've come a LONG way baby!!!!!!   It is really hard to put a finger on anything specific, but just the way the topics are mentioned - well you can tell that the mentality at that time was quite different. Case in point - I just finished a Clive Cussler novel from the same period and the way they talked about women in that book - well - that would turn your socks!!!!!

This book is about solving an 18 year old murder. I was trying to finish the book before I went to bed last night, but I was too tired. Yep - how many people do you know who can go to sleep just pages from the end of a murder mystery????

However I was WIDE AWAKE at 3:20 AM. Why - I have no idea, BUT I knew EXACTLY where that Dear Jane book was!!!!!   Go figure!!!!   My only thought was - don't forget when you wake up that you now know where the book was. Then I promptly went back to sleep.

I got up at my usual time (5 AM) and checked that spot and VOILA!!!!!!
Dear Jane

Even had TWO blocks done

including the twirly seams on the back!!!!

Wow - I was very impressed that my brain figured that out while I was sleeping!!!!  I guess I need to make a list of all the lost things and maybe I will find them in my sleep!!!

While I was searching the book cases, I did come across another book I had been looking for for someone else. Oh yes - I need to get those books organized again. Takes too long to go through them and the magazines - well it just has to be done. That is for the fall though as there is NO TIME right now.

I made a list of all the things I have to get done before my vacation and well - I don't have a lot of time. A lot of time to fiddle around that is!!!

I did get another quilt done yesterday for a customer.

Customer Quilt

I was looking through the quilts I have to quilt and dug out this one that I basted MANY MANY years ago. Pre long-arm and that was bought in 2005. I was making it for M. Then it got basted and that was it. It has been hanging around forever. It is nothing exciting - just a bunch of purple and pink squares. It was supposed to be a utility quilt.
Purple/pink quilt

Now this was before I made the bindings so of course there is NO BINDING for this quilt. I searched my purples this morning and the border fabric is gone, but I found one of the purples in the quilt and for what it is - I am just using this. Then I am using my stash and not having to buy anything new.

Binding fabric

The lesson in all this - MAKE that binding at the same time that you finish the top. Well I always do that now.

And here is a preview of my current project.

New project

I'm not going to tell you what this is for - yet!!!!   Any guesses????  It is a class I am teaching on the weekend and I have to get some samples done. I need a background for all this - hmmmm - do I use white or maybe black or dark blue???  or a pale colour of one of the colours - like pale yellow or pale green?????

Oh yes - for those of you who think I am totally off my rocker with the bike training - I have some major rides coming up. The Ride to Conquer Cancer in 10 days - TWO 100 mile rides back to back. Then at the end of the month another 100 Mile ride for The Healing Cycle. And THEN - I leave for my bike trip - Vancouver to Calgary.

Well that is it for me today.

Have a great day!!!!

Ciao!!!!!
