Upcoming classes

I have a couple of classes coming up and I wanted to let you know about them. If you're in the area, be sure to call up The Hobby Horse (905) 877-9292 and sign up! Classes are always fun and I don't think I've ever been to a class where I didn't learn some tidbit.

Jeweled Tiles

The first class is Jeweled Tiles. This is a quilt that I designed and wrote the pattern. It's a fun quilt that uses 12 FQs and a contrasting print for the border and sashing. The quilt is 52" by 60" so it's perfect for a lap quilt for adults or a child.

I've got some color options for you to peruse. Same quilt - four different colors. The first two use the same bright fat quarters - the top one uses black as the contrast, the second one uses medium grey for the borders for a more subtle effect.

The next two versions use a softer palette for the fat quarters.

If you've got a FQ bundle, this is the perfect quilt to make with it. Or pop into the Hobby Horse and pick out 12 coordinating FQs. The class will be held at The Hobby Horse quilt shop on Saturday, March 3 from 10 -1 PM AND March 10 from 2 - 4 PM.

You'll learn a whole lot about piecing. The class is geared to those that need a refresher on the basic quilting skills of cutting/seam allowance/pressing or perhaps you're new to quilting and want to learn how to get started properly. Once you've got your pieces cut, we'll chat about the placement of the colors, getting that 1/4" seam just right and lots of tips on pressing. And if you're comfortable with all that, it's just a great fun quilt to make - come out for the social aspect of sewing with friends (old and new). Way more exciting than sewing at home!

This quilt was also featured in a Northcott ad in the March/April 2018 issue of Quiltmaker on page 15.

Applique  - Lettering to personalize any project

We're going to explore the various methods of applique (fusible/raw edge and edges turned under) in this class.  We're going to look at both machine and hand applique since the prep method for both methods is very similar. Using words and letters to personalize a project is very popular these days. You're going to learn how to choose font styles and sizes that work for your project and more importantly where to get them. We'll be focusing on the technique in class, but then you can take that new skill set and add lettering to your own pillows/quilts/placemats with lettering that is tailored just for you.

The class will take place at the Hobby Horse Quilt shop. Saturday, March 3 from 1:30 - 4:30 PM.

Please call the Hobby Horse at 905-877-9292 to sign up for either of the classes.  I'll be posting more classes in the next couple of days.

Have a great day!!!

Ciao!!
