The long way home

Oops - it would appear that I wrote Part Two of yesterday's post and then somehow managed to NOT hit publish. DUH!

I was up early as usual and off to breakfast at 7 AM. I had everything packed and then I was off to explore the city for a bit. I had two hours before I had to get myself ready to start the long journey home.

I walked down Rue Ste. Catherine. Gosh - it seemed like EVERY STREET was closed for some kind of construction. Does that mean the city is back in business?? Not that it wasn't in business, but should I think of moving back there? Probably not. It was Sunday morning so the streets were fairly quiet at that time of the morning.

It's always good to have a destination when you're walking or at least a limit on how far you'll walk. I decided to walk to Concordia University where I went to school many years ago. I checked out the Metro (subway) but didn't take a ride - just walked through one of the stations. Oh my - the city has sure changed. I recognize a whole lot and yet so much I did not. That fancy new business school which didn't exist when I was there. And yet the little copy shop is still there.

I picked up a small salad to eat on the way home because we were taking the bus which would NOT be stopping long enough to get food. Walked down to the bus depot which was only a couple of blocks away and waited for the bus. A double-decker bus - how fun. Unfortunately, if you want to sit in the front up top - those are reserved seats. Oh well, might be best to not see what's coming.

I slept and read and listened to my audiobook. We were supposed to get into Toronto around 4:15, but with traffic, both getting out of Montreal and into Toronto on a Sunday afternoon? Well - it was closer to 5:30 when we arrived. It was pretty neat because DH was coming to pick me up and what time should he be at the bus depot? Well - I plugged into Google Maps and I got a pretty precise time. I kept in touch with texts and he arrived pretty much the same time that I did. I checked - Google Maps is NOT tracking me at the moment. But the more you delve into Google Maps - it's pretty scary. I looked at UPCOMING events in Google Maps and there are things that I have booked into my calendar that are on Google Maps.

Here's the scary thing about food. I didn't overeat on the trip, but I didn't eat like I would at home. I expended a lot of calories every day - maybe about 5000 calories? But I GAINED weight on the trip. How could that be? Only a couple of pounds and still below my goal (thank goodness for a buffer). Two things - I ate and drank a lot of sugar (beer and desserts) and you would think that my body would have burned some of that sugar away - but I don't think it burned it all and secondly, some of my existing fat turned to muscle? That's the one that I'm hoping for. Can you imagine taking a cruise with all that food and limited activity? Nope - couldn't cope with that. I'm back to eating fruit which my body seems to handle just fine. That damn refined sugar is a killer. GONE!

Needless to say, the girls were quite happy to see me. They each have their way of showing how much they miss me. I think they just missed their walk - they don't care about me.

I did not have a good sleep - partially because I slept on the bus and lots of things going through my head. Oh well - back to Monday sewing today. Yeah - I'm way behind on my Farmer's Wife blocks. Since it's only my deadline, I'm not going to worry about it. I have a few other deadlines that I need to be working on later this afternoon.

No injuries on the trip to report but I do have a muscle cramp in my upper butt. The darn thing is quite painful. I guess I didn't stretch enough at some point. Now it's probably one big ball of knots so I've got to work that out. Other than that - I'm feeling great.

Off to update my book lists. And I promise to have photos tomorrow.

Have a great day!!!!

Ciao!!!!
