Day three is a wrap at the retreat. Yikes - we look forward to coming here and then the time seems to just fly by. But that's OK. As long as we have fun while we're here.
I was out on my bike again yesterday and got in 35Km. I took a quieter route but still had about 3 KM to ride on a busy road. There was a small incident with a pickup. The guy was coming from a side road and YES - he stopped at the STOP sign. However, he actually stopped just inches from the main road and the STOP sign was way behind him. So did he see me??? I have no idea and in a situation like that - I would be the loser so I took a wide berth around him and gave him the evil eye.
Next thing I know, the guy is driving right beside me with his window down and telling me he stopped. Yeah - sure - but NOT at the STOP sign. He drove off and I gave him the royal salute.
But it drives me crazy even when I'm in the car. People race down the street, then brake like mad at least one or two car lengths beyond the STOP sign. How do I know you've seen me??? I've no idea and then I slow down or I swerve and it's dangerous. If people could just come nicely to the STOP, then stop and then proceed, the world would be a better place. GRRRRR
However, the ride was beautiful. Today is Saturday - the roads should be much quieter. I see it looks a wee bit overcast, but I'll be fine.
While I got a lot done yesterday, there really isn't much to show for it. Hmm - what did I do in the morning? I can't even remember. It must not have been anything important. I spent the entire afternoon ripping apart that blue and white quilt that I hand embroidered (with liquid embroidery) years ago. It's now in pieces. It stinks!!!! I can't wait to get those pieces home and soak them in Dawn. Then I'll see what's next.
Oh, now I remember what I did in the morning. I had a small bag of scraps that I was going to make into the outer covers for a couple of zippered pouches. They are done more or less, but I didn't have the rest of the supplies needed to make the pouches - so they will get prepped and will get done either at home or at the next retreat.
In the evening, I sewed that little fall wall hanging together for my Mom. It's paper pieced so after I sewed it together, I removed the paper. See - a fiddly day and nothing really to show, but a good day!!!
I've been on the hunt for a denim jean jacket. I've been scouting out various Value Villages when I go places. The day before, I had seen a green one that was quite nice. I tried it on and it was a wee bit snug but could have been used in a pinch. I found another one but wasn't sure that I liked the style. I left them both and thought I would go back the next day to evaluate the situation.
I went back yesterday and both jackets were GONE. Seriously???? What is it with denim jean jackets?? They are very hard to find. And there was NOTHING in the men's section. I didn't find anything else in the women's so I was going to leave. Then I spotted a rack with clothing that hadn't been hung up yet. Hmm - there's a jacket. In my size. I tried it on - the price was right - $12.99. SOLD. I was told by the group here that LACE is out. Well - if I want to put some lace on it - I will. I'm not sure what I'm going to with it yet, but it will have some embroidery on it.
Today - the pictures are from the Trendtex Challenge. This is a challenge that has taken place for the last thirty years. It's run by the Canadian Quilters Association during Quilt Canada and sponsored by Trendtex. I didn't get a chance to make one this year. I didn't really come up with an idea. And I ran out of time.
Here are the fabrics that were in the challenge package. The fabric combination was really nice.
Five fabrics for the Trendtex challenge |
The theme was "trending" which I found a bit of a challenge to work with. The quilts are auctioned (via silent auction) at Quilt Canada. This was an intriguing one. There are two trendsetters in this piece. Can you spot them???? I had two friends bidding against each other on this one so I didn't get involved, but I could have - I really like it.
Can you spot the trendsetters??? |
Trendtex challenge quilt that I bought |
The prices were very low so I bought another one as well. Again - the "trending theme" - this time the definition of trending.
Another piece that I bought |
BUT - this is the one that I wanted and I was willing to spend lots of money on it. I mean - isn't it perfect for me?????
Yep - that's Lexi and Murphy in the old truck!!!!! Someone else wanted this one, but I upped the bid near the end of the bidding and I hovered to make sure that no one scooped in to get it. It's adorable and I must send the maker a note.
Lexi and Murphy depicted in an old truck |
Of course, that's not my Lexi and Murphy, but the resemblance is close enough!!! I almost died laughing when I saw it. Of course, guess who is sitting in the driver's seat? Yep - that would be Murphy.
Well, breakfast is done and I might get this blog out on time this morning. I've got a jam-packed day with a number of projects lined up. There's a big sale at the quilt store and well - it's time to get moving. NO - I'm not going to the sale. There's one thing that I want and I might just give my credit card to someone and let them buy it for me. Or maybe I'll go on my bike. Then I can only buy what I can shove in the pockets of my jersey.
There is a whole lot of stuff happening here and I don't have time to take pictures. Yikes!!!! Too busy.
On that note, I'm out of here.
Have a super day!!!!
Ciao!!!
