Northern Lights - Class

Looking for a great learning experience?  I will be teaching a year long class at Sew Sisters starting February 15 and running over the course of the year with our big reveal in December 2014. The class takes place on the THIRD Saturday of every month at 10:30 AM.

Each month we will review the blocks from the previous month, then discuss the new blocks. You won't be penalized for not getting your homework done, but I think you will find out that it will be worthwhile to get your homework done. Come to class to find out more on that!

Here is the quilt that we will be working on....................

Northern Lights (without borders)

The borders on Northern Lights

The completed quilt top

And the second colour way
Northern Lights - the bright version!   This is only half of the quilt as I ran out of the yellow - and patiently waiting for more to come in so I can finish.

Both colour ways

There are TWO options with this quilt - you can make the queen sized quilt which measures 83 by 107 inches. The smaller quilt is 48 by 66 inches (WITHOUT borders) so it will make a nice lap size quilt.

We will be using Marti Michell templates for this quilt. Template Sets B and D for the large quilt, Template Sets A and C for the small quilt. If you don't have them, you will be able to get them at Sew Sisters.

What will you learn in this class???????

We will be reviewing basic skills like pressing (including figuring out pressing schemes for the entire quilt) and quarter inch seam allowance.
You will learn some great tips on cutting and working with templates - at first I thought I would hate them, but I LOVE working with them.
Lots of information about value and colour and how it can affect the way a block looks
How to find a focus fabric and what colours work with it
Neat tricks with striped fabric
Properly applying borders (and how to choose the style of border)

But the MOST important thing you will get from this class is friendship and a sense of camaraderie. While it is fun to attend a quilt class where you start a new project, often you go home and never see what the others were working on. And sometimes you do not even get your own project complete. In this class style - we break up a big project so that it is doable and YOU WILL GET the project done.

Call Sew Sisters to sign up for the class - the class fee for the year is TWENTY-FIVE dollars. That is a steal for what you get.

Here is the link to the quilt on their web site...............   (and more details about the class)

Sew Sisters Block of the Month

If you haven't been to the store - come out and have a peek. There are some amazing fabrics, lots of KONA solid cotton, great charm packs and great patterns and MUCH MUCH MORE.

Sign up with a friend or meet new friends. Pass this link onto someone who is just learning to quilt.

Have a great day - and see you on February 15th!!!!!!!!!!

Ciao!!!!!!!!!
