Are quilters made of money?

I've thought of a ball launcher for Murphy! I may have to break down and get one, as she is relentless with the ball. We'll just have to aim it so it doesn't go into the pond!

The door lock does NOT need a new battery. I changed it about two months ago, and I've not received notifications. However, I called the number I was given yesterday and got through with barely any waiting. YEAH!!

A technician is coming on Friday. It appears that the door locks and unlocks perfectly with the app. I've been testing it! I was on point when the technician asked me questions. Although I did throw him for a loop when he said they have "remote camera" access if I wanted to allow him to use the camera on my phone.

I just laughed and said that I CANNOT make calls on my BELL service cell phone, so I'm on a landline, and there's no option for video! He didn't know how to respond to that!

It locks from the inside (I'm manually turning the knob). The problem is with locking it from OUTSIDE, using the button. That button doesn't not appear to work. Now why is that? The entire lock (at my expense) probably needs to be replaced. At least that is taken care of, and let's hope it's fixed soon! I should have been on it sooner, but that just didn't happen. DH will be here to deal with it, so let's hope all goes well. I envision locking and unlocking the door from my class on Friday morning!

Lexi was NOT impressed as I tested locking and unlocking the door from the app. She looked up at the noise and was about to move, then decided it wasn't worth it!

MOM --- what's happening with the door?

So while you read this (well, depending on when you read it), I'll be on the highway to Kingston for two days of events at Stitch by Stitch. I'm excited and almost ready. The car is partially packed, and I'll finish it off tonight.

And what's with the weather? There's a frost advisory tonight. Seriously???

Frost!

I got another writing assignment almost complete. I hope to finish proofing and get it off tonight, leaving one more to go on the weekend. The quilt that needed to be quilted is done, and it'll get trimmed later and picked up on the weekend.

Customer quilt - DONE

I've packed loads of stuff in the car, and I can talk my way for hours with what I have! Three of the four presentations are done -- the fourth one -- well, I'll just wing it!

I'm not a miracle worker, and dealing with five topics, two brands, and two languages, it seems I never have the right presentation ready! It's a ton of work, and it'll all work out.

I see the theatre near me opened today, and I can't make it there until June - if I'm lucky. The Value Village opens next week, and I won't be there either! But now I'll have a couple of new destinations on my walking route! How exciting!

HOLY --- The price of quilting kits is getting crazy! We all know that there was a Tula Pink-inspired quilt that cost close to $1,000, including all the templates, fabric, patterns, etc. Now there is a Sue Spargo hand applique and embroidery kit that costs close to that price. The WOOL for the background alone costs almost $200 US. And the quilt is NOT huge (48" square).

Do these designers think we are made of money? I cannot see myself paying that price for ANY project. I don't care how much in love I am with the designer or the technique. That's just too much money for one project! I get that these kits will take a long time to be finished, but still!

OK -- -so we are "rigid" in our quilt making. Have a look at these quilts --- they are fun and funky and don't require any rules! Check it out -- Zak Foster

And now I'm off to see if everything fits in the car!

Have a super day!!!

Ciao!!

  1. I work in my local quilt shop. I am shocked at how much fabric the designers add into the patterns. I've decided they are in this to sell fabric, they don't care about the excess. It's making it difficult for many. Good luck with your presentations. So much work, but your students will learn so much!

  2. Kits definitely cater to the needs of quilters AFRAID to select their own fabric and/or those who only sew from a kit and discard the remains. I've heard of people who toss anything smaller than a FQ even if they cut 1 square from it. To each her own. I once bought a kit. I got 2 tops from it. Never again! I'm a quick learner :-)
